Resuscitation of the shocked patient presents a dilemma for the prehospital resuscitation team. Selection of the appropriate type and quantity of resuscitation fluid is not supported by evidence based consensus and discussions such as the ‘crystalloid colloid debate’ have been prolonged and unhelpful.
